Botanical name: Melaleuca Leucadendron
Botanical family: Myrtaceae

Part of plant used: Leaves and young branches

Origin: Malaysia, Philippines and Australia.

Description: Pharmaceutical, therapeutical aroma with a slight 'cats' smell

History: 'Kayu puteh' means white wood in Malaysian - sometimes referred to as the White Ti-Tree.

Properties and Indications:

• Highly sudorific - promotes sweating
• Powerful intestinal antiseptic and cleanser - useful for gastroenteritis, dysentery, illness's caused by organisms living in water, eg. amoebas
• Intestinal parasites
• Swampy type illness's such as malaria
• Urinary infections such as cystitis
• Cold and damp illnesses
• Especially good for the onset of colds or flu
• Lung congestion - has an expectorant quality
• Rheumatism
• Can be used for dermatitis if other oils don't seem effective

Contra-indications:

• If inhaled too much or taken internally can be emetic (cause vomiting)

Blending:

• Bergamot, Citronella, Clove, Geranium, Lavender, Niaouli, Nutmeg, Rose, Rosewood, Thyme
• Can be distilled in hot countries to clear the air
