Aromatherapy Oils - Lemon

Botanical name: Citrus Limonum
Botanical family: Rutaceae

Note: Top

Part of plant used: Rind

Origin: Persia, India, Southern Europe especially Spain and Portugal. Good from Sicily, more common from Brazil.

Description: Lemony!

History: Called the 'golden apple of Medes'. Hercules stole lemons from Hesperides.

Properties and Indications:

  • Febrifuge - cooling and reducing body temperature
  • Excellent for circulation, gentle vasoconstrictor
  • Tonic for the nervous system
  • Cardiotonic
  • Tonic for the head and mental facilities
  • Blood purifier - varicose veins, hemorrhoids, ulcers
  • Jaundice - in the recovery phase
  • Calms down bile attacks, decreases bile flow
  • Good for recovery - all round convalescent

Personality:

  • Versatile, likeable smell to all
  • Grounding, pleasant
  • Cool, refreshing

Contra-indications:

  • Do not expose yourself to the sun after using lemon as it is photosensitive

Blending:

  • Benzoin, Chamomile, Clove, Eucalyptus, Fennel, Ginger, Lavender, Neroli, Niaouli, Rose, Sandalwood, Thyme, Ylang Ylang
  • Do not blend Lemon with other lemony smells
