Day to day stress, lack of nutrition and too much of desk and computer work can put a lot of stress on our eyes.This can weaken the eye muscles. Below are some eye exercises extremely beneficial in eliminating eye stress and strengthening the eye muscles and help in getting rid of glasses-

1) Swinging-Stand upright,with your feet 30 cms apart, gently sway the whole body from side to side like a pendulum.repeat for a minute or two.

2) Palming-Sit comfortably,close your eyes and cover them with the palms so that the left palm is over the left eye and the right palm over the right eye.Rest your elbows on your knees and try to imagine blackness.do it for three or four minutes,twice a day or whenever your eyes are strained. palming helps to relax the eyes.

3) Blinking-Like palming and swinging, blinking is a third method of relaxing the eyes.Close and open your eyes frequently for a while.

4) Splashing-Close your eyes, cup your palms,collect cold water and splash it on your eyes. Do it 20 times,then rub the closed eyes gently with a towel 20 times.

5) Tighten and relax-Close your eyes tightly and open gently.do this at least 4 to 8 times.

6) Brumadhya dristi-Sit straight in any meditative posture and fix the vision in between the eyes.

7) Nasikagra dristi-Sit straight in any comfortable meditative position. Fix the vision at the tip of the nose without blinking the eyes.

8) Sunshine treatment-Early mornings, between 6 and 7 a.m. is the best time for gazing at the sun. Stand in an open yard facing the sun keep hands relaxed and look at the sun with eyes open for a few seconds and moving your head slightly from side to side.Then close the eyes for a few seconds and move the head from side to side. Repeat this a few times.for this treatment, wait for sunrise early in the morning. Look at the rising sun. gaze at the sun till the rays emerge.After the rays emerge one should not look at the sun. The same can be done before the sunset, after the sun rays disappear.

9) Jyoti trataka-Sit in a meditative posture.Keep the head back, neck and back straight . Fix your sight on the burning flame of a lit candle which is at eye level and at a distance of 2 to 3 feet from the face.Continue to gaze at the flame without moving the eyeball or blinking. When the eyes get tired or begin to water, close them and relax. repeat 4 to 8 times.

10) Cold eye pack-Dip a napkin in cold water and remove the excess of water by wringing. Fold the napkin into 3 or 4 folds to make its length 6" and width 4". Place this on the eyes for 20 minutes.

11) Cold spinal bath-Cold spinal bath is given in a tub specially made for it.A perforated tube has been provided at the center of the tub so that water comes out constantly in a jet form so as to give a gentle massage to the whole spinal column and nerves.

12) Body exercises-Stand straight make a circular movement of the shoulders fairly briskly. do it ten times clockwise and ten times anticlockwise.

13) Neck rotation exercises-Neck rotation exercises should be performed clockwise and anticlockwise around ten tim es.
