Depression

Depression: Mood, body and thoughts are involved in depression disorder. Men and women both are affected by this disease equally. Children, adolescents and young boys or girls are also affected by depression. Symptoms of depression can appear for days, weeks, months or years.

Types of depression:

  • Major depression
  • Dysthymia
  • Bipolar disorder

Major depression: It is very serious problem of depression. Major depression disrupts the study, eat, ability to work, enjoy and sleep. Major depression can be occurred only once time in a life.

Dysthymia: Sometimes people who have dysthymia depression may feel major depressive episodes in life. This is a long-term disease. There is no symptoms presence and sometimes patient feel good.

Bipolar disorder: It is also known as manic-depressive disorder. It is caused by changes in ability to work, person’s mood and energy. This is a serious problem of brain. Symptoms of this disorder include patient has performed poor in job or school, damaged the relationships and try for suicide. People with this disorder can be treated.

Causes of depression:

Family history may be the cause of depression. Major depression can be occurred generation after generation. Depression develops by changes in brain function and structures of brain. Physical changes in body, health problems such as heart attack, hormonal problems, stroke and cancer also develop depression. People who have low self-esteem also affected by depression. Sometimes certain medications such as infection of virus may cause depression.

Symptoms of depression:

  • Excessive irritation
  • Changes in behaviors, energy and mood
  • Less concentration
  • Low self-esteem
  • Poor judgments
  • Sad mood
  • Feelings of hopelessness, helplessness, guilt
  • No interest in hobbies and activities
  • Loss body weight
  • Increased talking
  • Social behavior is not good
  • Reduction in memory

Diagnosis of depression:

Screening test will be preferred by health care provider to diagnose the depression disorder. It may be helpful to identify the symptoms of depression.

Treatment for depression disorder:

Earlier Insulin shock treatment and Atropinic shock therapy are used to treat depression. Medication and psychotherapy are effective treatment to reduce the depression. Health care providers will be prescribed type of treatment according to the symptoms and family history. You should avoid street drugs and alcohol; they are not effective to treat depression.

Exercise: Physical activity and exercise may help to reduce the depression. Exercise such as walking May increased the level of chemicals such as serotonin, dopamine and norepinephrine. Psychotherapy and antidepressants both are very effective to treat depression.

Light therapy: Light therapy may be effective to treat any type of depression such as major depression. Sometimes artificial light is used to reduce the depression.

Meditation: Meditation will be recommended by the doctor. It is useful treatment to reduce the depression. Some meditation center available, patient can be joined these meditation center.
