Generalized Anxiety Disorder

Sometimes a moderate quantity of anxiety may be effective, but excess of anxious without any rhyme and reasons disturb your life and it can develop generalized anxiety disorder. Excessive anxiety is the main cause of generalized anxiety disorder. Persistent anxiety may be affected your daily life.

Generalized anxiety is often found in women. It is common disease along with panic attack, phobias and obsessive-compulsive disorder. Generalized anxiety disorder is a serious problem, you can’t live easily. But professional counseling, medications or other therapy can be effective to reduce the amount of anxiety.

Signs and symptoms:-

  • Feeling of being keyed up
  • Problem in concentration
  • Irritation
  • Being easily distracted
  • Problem in sleeping
  • Difficulty in taking the breath
  • Diarrhea

Causes of generalized anxiety disorder:

Exactly causes of this disease are not known by the researchers and doctors. But they think some factors may develop generalized anxiety disorder.

Coping with illness: A patient, who has a serious problem like cancer, can be developing anxious. If you are more worried about excessive of treatment and implications of diagnosis, it may become overwhelming.

Personality: people with some personality disorders such as borderline personality disorders can develop generalized anxiety disorder.

Specific medical conditions: some type of medical disorders such as hyperthyroidism can develop anxiety.

Stress: A person who has any physical disorder with stress also may the cause of generalized anxiety disorder.

Heredity: sometimes generalized anxiety disorder also the result of appearing heredity in the families.

Risk factors:

  • A severe physical disorder
  • Excessive stress
  • A personality type illness
  • Anxiety disorder in family or heredity

Diagnosis:

This disease is developed from anxiety disorder and worries. It can be diagnosed by asking some questions such as how it affected your life and how long it by your health care provider. Psychological evaluation and physical examination will be performed by your doctor at his office. Psychological evaluation include questionnaire about the patients by the doctor. Laboratory test also will be recommended by the doctor.

Treatment:

Mainly two treatments such as psychotherapy and medication are effected to treat generalized anxiety disorder.

Medications:

Antidepressants: these drugs include paroxetine, venlafaxine, fluoxetine, imipramine and escitalopram to treat this disorder. These drugs are not work quickly. They may begin to work after 12-14 days.

Anti-anxiety drugs: Take Benzodiazepines to reduce the anxiety for short periods. This may be form habit so don’t use it for long periods. Some sedatives such as chlordiazepoxide, diazepam, alprazolam, lorazepam and clonazepam will be recommended by the health care providers.

Psychotherapy:

Psychotherapy includes cognitive behaviors therapy to treat this disorder. It is very safe and effective and called by talking therapy. What you are thinking is the basic concepts of this therapy. In this treatment you should avoid negative thoughts.

Prevention:

  • Change your lifestyle and take more and more rest.
  • Avoid nicotine and caffeine and eat balanced diet.
  • Avoid activities which develop anxiety.
  • Converse with your friends, family members and professional counselor on this disorder.
