Genital Herpes:
Genital herpes is an infection caused by herpes simplex virus-2. It is also known as herpes genitalis. It is a sexually transmitted disease and contagious disease. HSV-2 enters your body through small cuts, wounds or breaks in your skin. You are feeling itching, pain and sores in your affected area.
The HSV dies quickly outside the body, so genital herpes not caused by other objects such as towels used by an infected person. Genital herpes commonly occur in adults and teenagers. Open communication is important between you or your partner for this infection. Genital herpes in a newborn baby can cause seizures, meningitis and brain damage.
Symptoms:
Symptoms of gentital herpes may include red bumps, small blisters, pain, ulcers or itching around your affected area. Symptoms of genital herpes beginning within few days after exposure to an infected person. Small blisters, red bumps may appear and they become ulcers that bleed. After few days the ulcers heal and scabs form.
In men it can appear on the buttocks, penis, and thighs or inside the urethra. In women it can appear in the vaginal area, buttocks, cervix or anus. If you are infected with HSV-2, you may feel pain in affected area until the infection clears.
Headache, fever, swollen lymph nodes in your groin, muscle aches also includes symptoms and signs of genital herpes. Signs and symptoms also include stress, poor nutrition, friction, menstruation and illness. In some cases of genital herpes, symptoms are absent.
Causes:
Genital herpes caused by both type of herpes simple’s virus. Mostly HSV-2 causes genital herpes. It is transmitted through unprotected sex.
Diagnosis:
If you are infected with genital herpes, go to your healthcare provider immediately. You healthcare provider may be taken blood test, culture of the blisters, ulcers or tissue scrap for diagnosis of genital herpes. Oral herpes is tested with ointments containing zinc sulfate, phenol or anti-viral agents.
Treatment:
Oral prescription antiviral medications can be reduced the infection of herpes simplex virus. Antiviral medications include famciclovir; acyclovir and valacyclovir can help heal the red bumps or sores. These medications may also reduce the frequency of relapses and the chance you will infect with the herpes simplex virus.
Prevention:
- Limit sexual contact to only one person who is not infected with HSV
- You or your partner uses a latex condom during sexual contact.
- If you are pregnant, watch signs and symptoms of HSV.
- You should keep the sores dry and clean.
- You should not touch the sores.
- You should always wash your hands after touching the sores.
