Paschimottanasana

Sanskrit: Paschima-Uttana-Asana Paschima=West; Uttana=An intense stretch - An intense stretch to the western (dorsal) part of the body. Also called Ugrasana or Brahmacharyasana

The Hatha Yoga Pradipika Says: Paschimottanasana is the best amongst asanas. By this asana, the pranic currents rise thru the sushumna, the digestive fires increase, the abdomen becomes flat, and the practitioner becomes free from disease.

Indications:
Digestive disorders, diabetes, colitis, flatulence, obesity, abdominal fat, sexual disorders, impotency, sexual incontinence, sex control, menstrual irregularity, stress and mental tension.

Contra-Indications: People who suffer from slipped disc or sciatica should not practise this asana.

Complementary asana: Bhujangasana Benefits:This asana stretches the hamstrings muscles and makes the hip joints more flexible. It tones the entire abdominal and pelvic areas including the liver, spleen, kidneys, stomach, intestines, pancreas and adrenal glands. It removes problems such as sluggishness of liver, kidney complaints, bronchitis and eosinophilia with regular practise. It revitalizes the pelvic area and improves the function of the reproductory organs and improves sexual control. Its ability to reduce abdominal fat is quite amazing. You can feel the effects very quickly - but only with regular practise.

This, like Sarvangasana is another of the great asanas. Practise is regularly and become free of disease.
