Aromatherapy Home Recipes

Try these simple and easy aromatherapy home recipes for your health and well-being. The ideas on this page will get you started on a creative adventure of including aromatherapy essential oils in your everyday life.

These aromatherapy home recipes are also good for using up old essential oils which may have lost some of their therapeutic qualities. Be creative and experiment with your own blends.

Bathroom air spray

This wonderfully refreshing air spray will keep your bathroom clean from bacteria and viruses.

Fill a pump-spray bottle with 500ml of distilled water then add the following essential oils:

Shake this mixture well before each use. Spray every day to keep your bathroom smelling fresh and clean.

Signature soap

For this easy recipe, buy any unscented liquid soap from either your local health food store, supermarket or online (see my list of recommended Aromatherapy Supplies). Fill a soap pump dispenser with the liquid soap then add 20 drops of the essential oils of your choice.

You can use a blend of essential oils or just use one. Check out the essential oil profiles to see what blends well with each other. My favorites for the bathroom are Ti-Tree, Pine, and Geranium. In the kitchen I like to use a citrus oil such as Lemon or Orange.

Coffee Scented Kitchen Soap

Use this recipe to create signature scents for your kitchen. It doesn't get any easier than this. For some reason the scents of coffee and lemon work well together!

5 drops Coffee essential oil
4 drops Lemon essential oil
1 cup of unscented liquid soap

Combine the essential oils with the unscented liquid soap and stir gently to combine. Transfer to a pump dispenser and you are ready to go. This recipes was kindly submitted by Kay in Australia. Thanks Kay, you've opened my eyes to Coffee essential oil!

Invigorating body oil

To combat dry skin it's great to keep this in the shower and use whenever you crave that velvety touch. You can either buy a plastic bottle with a pump or wash out an old lotion bottle that has a pump dispenser.

Fill your bottle with the base oil of your choice, I prefer Almond Oil but Grapeseed Oil, Apricot Oil or Avocado Oil are also suitable.

To each 100ml, add to this 10 drops each of Lemongrass, Juniper and Fennel. After your morning shower massage this mixture into your upper thighs, legs and arms, concentrating on those 'lumpy' areas. This mixture is especially good for detoxifying the body and the wonderful aroma lasts the whole day keeping you feeling fresh and uplifted.

Kitchen bench wipe

This is handy to keep on your kitchen bench so you can use it regularly when wiping up any messes.

You will need an old bottle, for example a fancy wine, liqueur, or olive oil bottle. You will also need a spirit pourer which can be purchased at a kitchen shop or department store.

Wash the bottle out thoroughly and fill with water. Add to this about 30 drops of your favorite citrus oils. Try a mixture of Grapefruit, Lemon and Petitgrain or any of your other favorites. Shake well and put the spirit pourer top on.

Pour a small quantity onto your kitchen sponge or cloth each time you wipe down the bench. This will fill your kitchen with a delightful, fresh aroma as well as being a natural disinfectant.

Handbag heaven

For that sweet smelling blend to take with you throughout the day. On a cotton bud or tissue add the following oils then simply pop into your handbag. Renew this once a week, after a while this wonderful aroma will permeate the whole bag - no renewal required! Hint: Sometimes leather bags come with a leather tag attached, use this to put your oils on.

Manbag magic

What man doesn't need a suave leather pouch to carry all his valuables in. My husband is a new man after acquiring his manbag and no longer do his pants fall down with his keys, mobile phone, wallet, etc. always weighing him down!! Be creative with this aromatherapy home recipe.

Use this masculine blend using the method above for Handbag heaven.

Fresh smelling cupboards and drawers

To keep your clothes smelling fresh, add a few drops of essential oils to cotton wool balls and place them in cupboards and drawers. My favorite oils to use for this is lavender and lemongrass. This also helps to keep moths at bay.

Teresa's wood polish

4 fl oz olive oil
1/2 teaspoon of Lemon essential oil

Mix in a small bottle, apply with a soft cloth and buff to shin. Olive oil feeds the wood and the lemon gives a fresh smell.

Kaylee's focus blend

3 fl oz spring water
10 drops Peppermint essential oil
10 drops Rosemary essential oil
10 drops Lime essential oil

Mix the above ingredients into a spray bottle. Shake well before spritzing into the room. Kaylee very kindly emailed this recipe to me and here's what she says - "I use this for concentration, studying and anytime I need a pick me up!" Thanks Kaylee!
